Nigerian Diplomat killed in Sudan

Reuters reported that the victim was found dead in his home on Thursday.

Two security sources, who spoke with the news agency, said the police were investigating the incident and provided no details on the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Dubai-based al-Arabiya television, however, identified the diplomat as the consul general and described his death as an “assassination.”

Reports on social media suggested the killers used a knife in the attack.

Reacting to the news, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was awaiting a detailed report on the killing.

The ministry spokesman, Tope Elias-Fatile, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, expressed sadness over the incident.

The statement said, “The ministry has received the sad news of the untimely death of the immigration attache in our Mission in Khartoum, Sudan.

“We are awaiting further/detailed report from the Mission after which a statement would be issued.”

The statement did not also provide the name of the victim.
