Barcelona have already win the LaLiga title and they currently hold a 15-point advantage over Real Madrid, however the team from the Spanish capital could finish the season as the best side of the season half of the championship.
Since the midway point, they have collected 40 points, which is more than every other team.
Barcelona are just one point behind when solely looking at results in the second half of the season, while Atletico Madrid have picked up 36 points so far.
Following a very disappointing first 19 matches of the league season, in which they collected just 32 points, Los Blancos have dramatically improved from January onwards.
The tiredness that followed their performances in the UEFA Super Cup and Supercopa de Espana disappeared and they started to finish the chances they were missing in the autumn.
They scored just 32 goals in the first half of the season, but already have 57 in the second half, even with one more match to come against Villarreal.
While there are no prizes for being the best side of the season’s second half, it would be a good sign for Real Madrid if they do manage to pull this off.
That’s because they have been the best side of the second half of the LaLiga season in each of their past three Champions League-winning campaigns.
They took 50 points in the second half of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons and 40 in the 2013/14 campaign.
In fact, Barcelona were also the best side of the LaLiga season’s second half in each of their two past Champions League triumphs of 2010/11 and 2014/15, claiming 52 and 44 points respectively.
